Job Description: Teaching Artist
Status: Non-Exempt | Part Time
Primary Function/Summary:
Teaching Artists at BBK have the unique opportunity to engage with, mentor, and inspire the students who participate in our programs. Instructors should let their passion and enthusiasm for their art form and the individuals they are training shine through everything they do.
Job Location:
Onsite at the assigned studio, and at the discretion of the Student Success Manager.
A Teaching Artist’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Preparing for and teaching high quality classes
- Showing care and concern for each individual student
- Tracking student progress and making regular student evaluations
- Communicating child and youth student progress to parents
- Greeting prospects, teaching intro lessons, providing program recommendations and making sure prospects receive an enrollment conference at the appropriate time
- Taking attendance and tracking DNS (Did Not Show) students, helping with contacts as needed
- Understanding studio business operations and how their work influences enrollment and retention rates
- Incorporating leadership principles and lessons into their teaching
- Developing choreography and selecting costumes for dance performances
- Assisting with rehearsals and performances as assigned by the studio director and/or lead instructor
- Performing in studio events and productions as needed
- Teaching the performance team as needed
- Assisting with marketing efforts
- Attending regular staff meetings
- Continuing personal artistic development through ongoing training and workshops
- Helping to keep the studio facility clean and in good condition
- Assisting with studio special events like mass intros, open houses, student appreciation events, holiday parties, etc.
- Cross training in administrative operations and assisting as needed
Your Experience:
Level 1:
- Graduated from high school.
- Completed 14+ years of fundamental/technical dance classes in a reputable dance studio.
- Competed in at least 2 competitions.
Level 2:
- 5-10 years experience in ballet, jazz, and/or tap on a professional stage.
- 5+ years experience in teaching students between 5-12 years old and preparing the students for competitions.
Level 3:
- 10+ years experience in ballet and/or tap on a professional stage, including on nationally recognized professional dance organizations, such as NYCDA, Encore, etc. Experience in performing modern, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, and hip hop dance is a plus
- 5+ years experience teaching 5-12+ years old students and preparing for competitions
